About the Artist:
William Dawson is a contemporary ceramic artist whose work bridges rugged physicality with sculptural expression. After serving in the U.S. Navy, where he developed a deep discipline and respect for raw materials, Dawson transitioned his focus to the kiln and studio. Heavily inspired by the radical, boundary-breaking techniques of Peter Voulkos, his practice rejects traditional pottery constraints. Instead, Dawson embraces an abstract expressionist approach to clay, utilizing aggressive wheel-throwing, slab-building, and intentional tearing to explore form and weight. His deconstructed vessels and monumental ceramic structures evoke a powerful sense of improvisation and energy. Dawson currently creates out of his private studio, exhibiting his work in galleries nationwide.
